Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), which was based in Washington DC. Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional correspondent. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a part of the panel during 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy reports over time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms, and the Iran Contra scandal. She traveled frequently along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
